Etihad Airways Set To Elevate NFT Use Cases

Titled EY-ZERO1, the airline’s eleventh 3D aircraft NFT features Etihad’s recently revealed Mission: Impossible-themed Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This special NFT drop builds on Etihad’s successful inaugural NFT collection from July 2022, which featured digitized models of ten iconic Etihad liveries.

Etihad is also pioneering an industry-first “Staking-for-Miles” program allowing NFT holders to earn Etihad Guest miles for locking up their NFTs. This innovative web3 initiative marks a milestone for customer loyalty programs.

The airline teamed up again with Arcube, 3D specialists who created the meticulously detailed 3D aircraft models underpinning the NFTs. Crossmint provided the blockchain infrastructure and payments integration.

Only 300 of the limited-edition Mission: Impossible NFTs are available. Holders gain access to exclusive Etihad Airways rewards, including 12-month Etihad Guest Silver tier status, priority airport services, lounge access, and bonus miles. They also join the Etihad: Virtual Club, which unlocks additional miles and other VIP benefits.

The “Staking-for-Miles” feature allows Etihad NFT holders to lock up their NFTs for set periods in exchange for miles. For instance, locking an NFT for three months could earn 5,000 miles. This marks a global first for an airline loyalty program leveraging NFT staking rewards.

NFT holders can also access an immersive 3D environment to explore their digital aircraft models and benefits. Earned miles can then purchase Etihad flights and upgrades or items from the airline’s exclusive NFT store.

Crossmint’s integration of credit card and crypto payment options aims to attract mainstream users to Etihad’s web3 ecosystem. The company’s blockchain tools and infrastructure enabled Etihad to quickly deploy NFT minting and payments.
