Splinterlands just unveiled new details about its plans for the first phase of its land gameplay. It includes land surveying, card staking, and resource production. Let’s take a look at what’s next for this NFT game!
Splinterlands’ Lands Basic Mechanisms
First and foremost, land plots produce resources. In the beginning, this consists of ‘Grain’ that can be used to feed the workers. They can also produce SPS tokens and research for the Secrets of Praetoria. However, this research concerns a global project that won’t be fully unlocked until Phase 2. Players will receive benefits based on how much they contributed to the research. Moreover, they will earn special titles by contributing the most in their Territory.
To work their land plots, players will stake their Splinterland Cards. Each card staked (up to 5 per plot) generates production points, depending on the card’s rarity, level, and set. Players will also gain access to additional bonuses or penalties, based on the terrain type and card affinity. For instance, a Fire Card staked to a Lake or River plot receives a 50% Penalty. Players can also stake Totems and Titles to plots for further bonuses.
Players will start the game by surveying their land. It will reveal the terrain type plus the presence of any special features. At this stage, players will have the possibility to purchase a special Starter Package, in order to gain some time.
What is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands rapidly became one of the most popular Web3 games. It is a collectible playing card game, where players can fight opponents. All the cards available are NFTs. One player is limited to seven monsters with a total mana cost of 25 points. Each monster also has attack, stamina, speed, and health points. Each card also has an experience bar as it can evolve to unlock new abilities. Finally, the cards have a rarity, ranging from Common to Legendary.
To clarify, Splinterlands’ lands are divided into 6 main types which are called “sources of magic”. These 6 sources are Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death, and Dragons. Magic sources are also associated with factions that determine summoners and playable monsters.
Players can earn money by playing the game. First, they need to pay 10 dollars to unlock the Summon Book. Then, they will have access to daily rewards and quests. Some plots will hold a Keep or Castle: they will act as marketplaces for their local areas and provide the owner with passive tax income. In the future, players should be able to rent their land plots.
Finally, Splinterlands’ actual or future owners can already check the official documentation at https://splinterlands.gitbook.io/the-secret-of-praetoria/. The update, called Splinterlands 1,5, should be available by the end of Q2 2023.
