BAYC Jimmy The Monkey Trial: What You Should Know

The “Trial Of Jimmy The Monkey” is the expansion to the Yuga Labs’ BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club) NFT lore. The six-stage expansion has begun with a weird, mysterious short film. On its release yesterday, BAYC founders Wylie Aronow & Greg Solano have kickstarted the new chapter of the BAYC universe. Here’s a full breakdown of the 2-minute short film along with other details about the amazing new project!

The Trial Of Jimmy The Monkey: Weirdly Interesting BAYC Lore

BAYC Co-founder Garga was dead serious in his statement of the Trial being “some really weird shit.” As we witness on the short film released yesterday, things take a turn for the absurdly weird in the BAYC universe. The video starts off with BAYC monkey Jimmy taking a huge dump in a BAYC outhouse in the middle of a party. BAYC mascot Curtis finds Jimmy in this state as he enters the outhouse, and disgusted by what he smells, he turns around to leave.

Right before Curtis leaves, though, a flurry of arrows and knives fly around him, and a BAYC knight appears from the pot. The Knight then presents Curtis with a mysterious box. This box is also the same one that was tweeted earlier this month on the official BAYC account. The Knight hands Curtis a special key from within the box. Then he leaves with a sense of urgency into the toilet. On his outhouse exit, Curtis then joins the party along with his other primate friends. They ignore the box and key, and continue to consume ungodly amounts of alcohol!

Things seem boring and usual for the Apes, until Jimmy manages to swallow the key in his drunken state. The Apes then chase him around trying to get a hold of him to retrieve the key. Jimmy then steps back into the outhouse, locking the door securely. He then proceeds to try to throw up the key, and when that doesn’t work, tries to “evacuate” the key via his other orifice. But alas, this plan doesn’t work out the way it has to, and Jimmy passes out on the toilet seat. Curtis and the other Apes then conjure up a last-minute plan – dig in to the sewers and retrieve the key from under Jimmy’s butt! And that’s exactly where the video ends.

Easter Eggs Ahoy!

Holy ridiculousness, Batman. What and why are questions that don’t exist in the BAYC universe apparently. Although, the video does seem to give out some cool sci-fi vibes as well. Twitter user @Ryder3332 has compiled a short thread on some of the hidden details in the BAYC video. They point out that the video has time-travel hints. For instance, in the first shot, zooming into the black and white portrait in the toilet sees Jimmy with the same facial expression handing a box to Curtis. They also point out that there may be a Curtis (captain) for each time period. This is owing to the fact that we see the same captain symbol on the Knight’s helm. Or it can be speculated that the toilet knight is Curtis’ relative.

The Trial Of Jimmy The Monkey is just the first of six BAYC phases as they advance on their roadmap.  The next phases include the “Mystery Reveal”, mint preparation, a multi-week interactive mint, mint reveal, and the continuation of the story.
